How to come in Chalkidiki
Transportation by boat:
Ferries are only going until Thessaloniki and leaving from there. To reach Halkidiki, a bus has to be taken from Thessaloniki. Thessaloniki is linked all year with Piraeus, Lemnos, Mytilene, Chios, Rhodes, Kos, Samos, Mykonos, Paros, Santorini, Syros, Tinos, Skiathos and Herakleion (Crete). In the summer Thessaloniki is linked by ferries with Alonissos, Skiathos, Skopelos, Naxos and Volos. Flying Dolphins (hydrofoils) Only in summer, Flying Dolphins are linking Neos Marmaras to Pefkochori, to Porto Carras, to Thessaly and to the Sporades Islands (Alonissos, Skiathos, Skopelos). Hydrofoils link Nea Moudania to Thessaloniki, to the Sporades and to Thessaly (Agios Iannis and Horefto). From Pefkochori, Flying Dolphins are leaving to Neos Marmaras, Porto Carras, Thessaly and to the Sporades Islands. Flying Dolphins are linking Porto Carras to Neos Marmaras, Pefkochori and the Sporades.
Transportation by bus:
The main means to get around Thessaloniki is by bus. There are plenty and frequent buses that run all over Thessaloniki, so getting around will be easy. For transportation inside the town, there are the urban buses but if you want to go far from the city centre, eg in a beach or a village, you will have to take a suburban bus. Moroever, there are always taxis to give a quick and more comfortable transportation from one side of the town to the other. KTEL buses leave daily, all year long, from Thessaloniki to Polygyros and Nea Moudania. Bus services are also available from Thessaloniki to reach the villages of Cassandra, of Sithonia, Ierissos and Ouranoupolis.
